Nate’s gotten really serious. He’s about to start his senior year of high school and he really wants to get into college. He wants to major in business or economics, since he still wants to open his own restaurant.

Dad’s wishing him luck, of course, and then getting all weepy. Probably since Nate would be the first to go to college. Even if Tommy had lived, he wasn’t planning on going to college. He was sure he was going to be a soccer star, and you don’t need college for that. Maybe he could’ve done it.

Dad’s now the fire chief. He’s being really cool about it though. Not throwing it in people’s faces or anything. I appreciate that. I don’t want to be known as the son of the fire chief once school starts.

Since I’m just getting ready to start high school, I’ll admit I may be goofing off a little. But when else am I going to enjoy my teen years but the summer? I’m at least holding down a job, so that counts toward not even slacking.

So is Nate; he has a job as a glorified gofer at the business office downtown. He’s doing really well, and they offered an immediate full-time position, but Nate turned them down. He wouldn’t be able to do that and take college courses at the same time.

On the weekends, I drag Nate out of the house. I’m looking for hot girls and since he’s so stuffy, he could be my wingman. Besides, he’s got that pretty boy look without even trying. Girls love that, and maybe they’ll stop saying I’m adorable. I’m not adorable; that’s what little boys are, and I’m already fourteen!

I did meet a cute girl. Her name’s Michelle. Her dad owns the grocery store, which is the only reason she’s allowed behind the counter; she’s technically not old enough to work legally. But she thinks I’m funny. I was hoping to get cool, but I’ll work on that.

I guess he finally made up with his ex. At least they didn’t get back together. He was so sappy when he was with her, and I’d never tell him, but I wanted to hang with him and she sucked up all his time.

I’m just glad he decided not to go across the country to school. I have a couple of his friends to thank for that. He says he’s still not sure if he’ll come back here afterward, but at least there’s a chance I’ll see him on more than holidays and summer break.

He’s not going too far away, but I’m going to miss his meals. He does all the cooking in the house, since I can’t cook to save my life and Dad knows some dishes, but they never taste as good as Nate’s.

To be honest, I’m just going to miss him. We’re close in a way neither of us were with Tommy; he was just too much older then us. Since we’re only three years apart, it’s not so bad. And I’d never tell him that, but he’s fun in a goofy way. Our dance-offs were epic.

Brandi is entering her second trimester. This baby has a bad habit of pressing down on her bladder, and she’s had to take a leave of absence from her job, which has broken her heart. She’ll be glad to be done. Baby LeTourneau-Gieke is due in February.

  • Title ref: It’s My Life – Bon Jovi.
  • I’m warming up to Danny. His grumpiness makes me just want to pinch his cheeks.
  • He’s got two bolts with Michelle. We’ll see where this leads. Whether they’ll be a romance for the ages, or a repeat of Mike and Amy.
  • Couldn’t fit it in, but this is what I get for just watching Frank and putting the game on speed 3. By the time I noticed it was too late to stop. Danny wouldn’t know, but I hope this was just a one-time thing. I can’t figure out how to work that into the story right now. Especially since he’s underage. Ewww.
  • Frank is almost at level 10. After that, maybe I’ll actually work on his LTW.
